Words as Actions

How's lyfe?

As I walked back to my dorm this morning, having aced a Spanish exam, consumed a Venti White Chocolate Mocha, and listened to a lecture on my favorite part of Biology, genetics, and while listening to my iPod, the song "My Stupid Mouth" by John Mayer came on.

The song tells of a date gone awry, in which the singer experiences a foot-in-mouth moment that turns his lovely date off to him completely. As I listened to Sir John's lyrics (don't worry he'll be knighted soon enough), I could not help but think about the countless times in my life that I have said things before actually thinking about them.

A current situation involving family is a prime example. We often do not realize that sometimes our words, although expressed and meant in one way, can be interpreted in a completely opposite fashion. It is often when we are experiencing the extremes of an emotion, whether it be sadness, grief, anger or even happiness, that our words simply flow out of us, without any thought or control.

I have often heard the cliche, "Actions speak louder than words." I believe in this wholeheartedly. But what happens when our words are actions? What happens when our words actively hurt another, even when we don't mean them?

Words, and more broadly language, are some of the most powerful tools we possess. They can inspire countless numbers of people in the form of holy writings or can inspire millions of citizens to cast their vote for a particular candidate. They can also tear at another's soul if directed properly.

The thing I take from this song is that words are powerful, precious and few. There are only so many words that we get to say to one another in life. And I strive each day, and fail often, to use my words in a positive way.

Hoping lyfe is well,

Cobes

Sidenote: Here's a link to the song mentioned above and special thanks to John Mayer for his song.

How's lyfe?

For a while now I've had hundreds of thoughts and questions swirling around in my head about my life. I couldn't figure out how to properly express and articulate them. I tried traditional journal methods but was quite unsatisfied. I am hoping that this method gives me better results.

This entry is merely an explanation as to why I chose to start a blog, something I'd never thought of before.
I will post an intro of myself and my life soon.

Hope you enjoy.

Hoping lyfe is well,

Cobes
